Black Stars fitness coach Ricky Roy dead

The fitness coach of Ghana’s senior male national team, Romeo Ricky Roy has tragically passed away.

The unfortunate incident occurred on Sunday, April 28, 2024, though the exact cause of his death remains unconfirmed.

According to reports, Roy had been feeling unwell but unfortunately succumbed to his illness before he could recover.

Roy gained recognition four years ago when he heroically saved the life of a player during a Division One League match between Vision FC and Agbozume.

As a member of Vision FC's staff at the time, he successfully resuscitated left-back Benjamin Aloma after he collapsed on the field following a clash of heads.

Following this heroic act, Roy was appointed to the Black Stars’ backroom staff under Milovan Rajevac’s tenure, serving alongside Otto Addo and Chris Hughton.

He contributed to the team's campaigns at the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup and the recent 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in the Ivory Coast.

Tributes have been pouring in from the football community since the confirmation of Roy’s untimely passing.

Yussif Alhassan Chibsah, PRO for the Professional Footballers Association of Ghana (PFAG), expressed his grief on X, writing, “Ricky Roy Romeo, why sooooo soon my brother.”
