Ghana winger, Joseph Paintsil has voiced the Los Angeles Galaxy's frustration at missing out on a victory in their opening game of the new Major League Soccer (MLS) season, despite feeling positive about the team's overall performance.

In front of a capacity crowd at the Dignity Health Sports Park, the Galaxy drew 1-1 with Lionel Messi's Inter Miami.

Dejan Joveljic scored the first goal of the game from a penalty, which was awarded after a foul by Paintsil in his debut game for the Galaxy. However, Messi salvaged a late equalizer deep into injury time.

Paintsil, who recently signed a four-year, $9 million deal to join the Galaxy from KRC Genk in Belgium, expressed his disappointment over the result but praised the team's efforts.

"We're disappointed with the draw, but we're satisfied with the style of football we played," Paintsil said in a post-game interview.

"It's disappointing that we couldn't secure the three points we needed for a strong start to the season. However, there's still hope. We did a fantastic job. It was just a matter of luck that Messi scored the final goal."

The Galaxy's next match is against the San Jose Earthquakes on March 3 in the MLS regular season.
