Technical advisor, Chris Hughton has expressed his excitement following the inclusion of Tariq Lamptey into the Black Stars ahead of the 2022 World Cup.

The Brighton defender has snubbed England to switch nationality to play for the West African country.

Hughton, who helped persuade the Lmaptey to commit to Ghana, said Lamptey is excited about the prospect of playing for the Black Stars.

According to the former Brighton manager, Lamptey is a fantastic addition to the squad and he is confident the right-back will do well.

“Lamptey came after my time in Brighton but I have seen a lot of him. I knew him during his time in Chelsea, very adaptable player. His position at Brighton has very much been as a right-back but I think in the progression I’ve seen him play in other positions, in central midfield but also at Brighton in a more advanced position because they tend to change the shape,” Hughton raved on TV3.

“The beauty with someone like Lamptey is of course he’s young, he’s enthusiastic, he’s very excited about the prospect of being involved but he has a lot of adaptability on where he can play. He has pace,” he added.

The former Chelsea graduate is expected to make his debut for the Black Stars against Brazil in an international friendly this month.

Lamptey is one of six players who announced their intention to play for Ghana in June, and five of them have been included in the latest squad for pre-World Cup friendlies against Brazil and Nicaragua.

Ghana will play Brazil on September 23 and Nicaragua four days later. Both games are part of the team’s preparations for the World Cup in Qatar, where the Black Stars will compete in the group stage against Portugal, South Korea, and Uruguay.
