Captain of the senior national team, the Black Stars, Andre Ayew has set his sight on winning the Africa Cup of Nations [Afcon] under head coach, CK Akonnor.

Ghana, a four-times Africa champions have failed to win the trophy after winning the tournament in 1982.

However, the Black Stars have played in three finals, 1992, 2010 and 2015 but have failed to lift the trophy.

But according to the Swansea City ace, the dream to help deliver the promise as captain remains intact.

“My personal dream is to make sure that the trophy comes home. But we have one year and a half to go, so we are going to take our time," he said.

"We have to play the qualifications, we have time to groom, it’s a new Black Stars though I don’t really like the name new Black Stars.

"Black Stars is Black Stars, if you come in and wear the jersey, you have to prove your worth and like I said, there are a lot of players who are there, who are tested and proven players in their League,” Ayew noted.

CK Akonnor suffered a humiliation in his first assignment in a friendly match against Mali in Turkey in Antalya on October 9.

Ghana will have time to make amends when they face Asian champions Qatar on Monday.
