Former Asante Kotoko, captain Amos Frimpong has backed the decision of the management and the board to compete in the 2020/21 Caf Champions League.

The Ghana Premier League giants were given the nod by the Executive Council of Ghana Football Association following the cancellation of the Premier League due to the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic.

Reacting to Kotoko’s decision to compete with other big guns in the CAF elite competition, AS Kaloum Stars right-back in an interview with Kumasi based Opemsuo FM backed the decision of the hierarchy of the club.

"The decision to play in the Champions League is a bold one because the players have not been active since March.

"Nonetheless, the current situation can be juxtaposed to what happened to us during the time of C.K. Akonnor. Regardless of the challenges, we braved the odds to reach the group stage of the competition a feat it took Kotoko a decade to achieve.”

He reckoned that the management will need the indefatigable relentless support from the Kotoko supporters who are the gaining steam for the success of the team.

“The Management should work to win the support of the supporters because they shoulder the team in hard times and once they are able to secure that the club will be good to go far in the competition.”

Frimpong spent eight (8) seasons with the Ghanaian giants before leaving to seek greener pastures.

Meanwhile, their regional rivals, Ashgold will play in teh Caf Confederations Cup.
