Its A Shame Gov't Still Owes Kwesi Appiah - Blakk Rasta

Popular Ghanaian reggae artist and radio host, Abubakar Ahmed, popularly known as Blakk Rasta has taken a swipe at government for failing to pay Kwesi Appiah's five months salary arrears in full.

Appiah, 61, left his role as Ghana coach on December 31 and was replaced by assistant CK Akonnor as new head coach of the Black Stars.

However, the former Al Khartoum manager was who was on a $35,000 monthly salary worked for five months with salary.

The five-month salary together with two winning bonuses amounted to $185,000.

But after a tussle between the Ghana FA and the lawyers of Kwesi Appiah, it was reported that Appiah has threatened to drag the Ghana FA to FIFA should they fail to pay his unpaid salary.

However, the government admitted that they are responsible to settle the five months salary arrears of Kwesi Appiah.

Last month, Kwesi Appiah was paid two months salary arrears [$70,000] but according to the award-winning reggae musician, its shame how we will treat our local coaches in such manner.

According to him, the country sometimes hire expatriate coaches with interpreters and we pay them in full but the country cannot do the same for an indigenous coach.

"Ghana is a beautiful country but we have people who are failing to do the right thing," he said on his program 'Taxi Driver Show' on Zylofon FM.

"I am sometimes ashamed of myself. The country owes Kwesi Appiah and they cannot even pay him in full.

"We sometimes hire expatriate coaches with interpreters and we are able to meet their demands. Why can't we treat our own like that?

"Kwesi Appiah worked and he has to be paid. It is a shame that until now, the government has been able to pay Kwesi Appiah's full salary arrears.

"Such attitude of trying to run ourselves down must stop," he added.

Kwesi Appiah, a former Black Stars captain was the first Ghanaian coach to qualify the country for FIFA World Cup in Brazil in 2014.
