A second-year Science student of the Miracle Secondary School, a private educational institution in Sunyani, Master Isaac Boahen, sat the 2005 Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSSCE) while in Form One and qualified for the university.
He, however, decided to stay in the school and write the examination again in form three. In recognition of this academic feat and high moral standards, the school authorities have awarded him a scholarship to enable him complete his senior secondary school programme.
The school also offered scholarships to four other students for similar reasons. The four other students are masters Emmanuel Boakye, Philip Twumasi Ankrah and Kofi Boamah Arhin, all first-year Science students, and Thomas Appiah, a first-year Arts student.
Each of the students will enjoy half scholarship of ¢900,000 per term. Briefing newsmen in Sunyani, the Headmaster of the school, Mr Gabriel Essandoh, said Master Boahen was awarded the scholarship for excelling in the 2005 Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSSCE) while in Form One, by qualifying for the university even though he decided to stay in the school and write the examination again in Form Three.
He said the other students were also honoured for showing continuos academic excellence in their promotion examinations.
Mr Essandoh stressed that the scholarships would be withdrawn if the performance of the beneficiary students declined academically to give the opportunity to new students who excel in their academic pursuits to enjoy the scheme.
He seized the opportunity to educate students of the school to be hardworking and disciplined in order to fit well into the society.
The headmaster implored parents to strive to provide their wards with the requisite textbooks and also pay their school fees regularly for the school to render quality services to the students to justify the investment they were making in them.
The Assistant Headmaster of the school, Mr John Anaba Apambilla, advised parents to visit their wards at school regularly to find out how they were faring and to encourage them to study hard.
