The National Democratic Congress (NDC) is calling for the enactment of an Anti-Nepotism Law that prohibits the President and other government officials from appointing their relatives into positions.

According to the NDC, the level of nepotism under the Nana Addo government is unprecedented thus their call.

Addressing the press at its Moment of Truth Series at the party headquarters dubbed “Family and Friends”,’ the Communications Director of the NDC, Sammy Gyamfi alleged that’ President Nana Addo and his government officials have created non existent roles for their relatives while appointing some of them to serve in various lucrative roles in the government.”

Mr. Sammy Gyamfi said that the huge nepotism in the current government has become the breeding grounds for huge corruption in the system while denying the average Ghanaian of equal economic opportunities.

According to him, the current development where family members of President Akufo-Addo have been appointed to occupy key government positions makes a mockery of the New Patriotic Party (NPP)’s criticisms of him [Mahama] when the party was in opposition

He is, therefore, calling on civil society organizations to add up their voices to demand the passage of the law to curb the increasing trend of nepotism.

Sammy Gyamfi later went ahead to mention some long chain of persons who have been appointed into the administration of the NPP who are clear examples of the family and friends he is claiming.

However, he also questioned the silence of civil society groups on developments in the country under the NPP, accusing them of changing the rules depending on who is in power.
