Help trace fleeing armed robbers-V.R. Police

Ho, March 2, GNA - The Volta Regional Police Command has asked the general public to assist in efforts to arrest five armed men who attacked a businessman at Anloga in the Keta District on Saturday February 18, this year.

The robbers who wielded locally made pistols and other offensive weapons were said to have driven their escape vehicle into the bush near Kpoglu on the Ho-Aflao trunk road after a shootout with the police and escaped.

A press release signed by Lance Corporal Joy Afagbedzi of the Regional Police Public Relations Department said the robbers were presumed hurt and could be seeking treatment in orthodox and traditional health facilities.

The release said at about 2100 hours on that day the robbers attacked Mr Thompson Teku at his residence, opposite the Anlo Technical Institute, beat up he and his watchman, sealed their mouths with cellotape and then tied their hands behind them. They then ransacked his room, stole 27 million cedis and two mobile phones and fled in the victim's Isuzu Midi vehicle with registration number VR 47 W, which was full of assorted goods Mr Teku had just brought from Accra.

The release said the victim's wife and children helped disentangle him and the watchman after, which a report was made to the Anloga Police.

It said the Police gave the robbers a hot chase, radioed their counterparts at Keta who also moved to chase the robbers. The release said the Police sighted the robbers when nearing the Customs Excise and Preventive Service (CEPS) barrier at Kpoglu. It said the robbers, on seeing the Police opened fire, which was returned and the robbers sensing danger drove into the bush, abandoned the vehicle and its contents and escaped.
