The Communications Director of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sammy Gyamfi says they will not allow their National Chairman Samuel Ofosu Ampofo to honour the CID's invitation which fingered him (Ofosu Ampofo) in the recent kidnappings and fire outbreaks in the country.
Sammy Gyamfi has described the invitation extended to Samuel Ofosu Ampofo by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) as 'nonsensical and hogwash.'
According to the CID, individuals it has picked up regarding the recent kidnapping and fire have mentioned Mr. Ofosu Ampofo “as part of a grand scheme designed to cause fear and panic in the country.”
In the invitation letter from the CID, dated May 7, 2019 and by the Director-General of the CID, Commissioner of Police, Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah said:
“some of the persons picked up for interrogation and investigation have mentioned your name as part of a grand scheme designed to cause fear and panic in the country. As a result of the above information and intelligence, you are kindly requested to report to the undersigned on Thursday 9th May 2019 at 2pm to assist in our investigations.”
But speaking to an Accra based radio station, Asempa FM, Mr. Gyamfi says the NDC would defy the law by preventing its National Chairman from honouring the CID invitation.
He believes the allegations contained in the invitation letter are 'useless,' 'concocted' and 'nonsensical,' for that matter was no basis for Mr. Ofosu Ampofo to honour the invitation.
Mr. Ofosu Ampofo is already standing trial for an alleged leaked tape in which he was purportedly heard instigating the assassination and kidnapping of certain persons.
