Bengaluru, 21st January 2019: Optometry students from India, Nepal and Iran, studying at the Sankara College of Optometry, celebrated their graduation day. Chief Guest for the evening was Prof Jayasankaran, Former Chancellor SSKMV, Kanchipuram and senior member of Association of Indian Management Schools, NAAC and AICTE. Dr Radha Ramani, CoFounder, Sankara Eye Foundation India was the Guest of Honour.

Sankara College of Optometry has been providing quality education for optometry students from 2010. Five of the top 10 university ranks were obtained by students of the batch. Total 33 students were graduated.

In her address Dr Radha Ramani, Co-Founder Sankara Eye Foundation, advised students,” Imbibe five mantras for life - Compassion, Love, Punctuality, Resilience and Hard work. Every time I feel confused I look up to these principles and through this we have been able to build Sankara Eye Foundation among the world’s largest community eye care provider.”

Dr. Jayasankaran, Former Chancellor SSKMV, Kanchipuram shared how the concept of graduation existed from the Vedic Era. “Students completing their studies were invited to an event where eminent scholars were invited to impart advice to them.” He extolled the students not to lose their touch with their patients. “As healthcare workers, it is important that you remember not to lose your TOUCH with patients. It is your responsibility to examine your patients diligently and to emotionally connect with them to remove their fears. “

Sankara College of Optometry attracts students from across the world. For Ms Shiva Eskandariyan from Semnan, Iran, the course not only enhanced her knowledge of optometry but also helped her get to know members from the Bahai community she belongs to from Bengaluru. “The last 4 years has been a journey of wonderful memories. I had my initial interview through Skype and thereon the faculty ensured I learnt my skills and helped me through the course. The people of India are extremely kind and I felt very safe here. The graduation yesterday is a highlight for me as an individual and professional “

The function saw an atmosphere of happiness and excitement among the students and pride among the faculty and parents’. Rounds of applause punctuated the evening as students went on stage to collect their certificates. Satish Kumar was recognised as the Best Outgoing Student for excelling in academics, extracurricular activities and for demonstrating exemplary leadership skills through the course.

Sankara College of Optometry is affiliated to the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences. The college a part of the Sankara Academy of Vision (Sri Kanchi kamakoti Medical Trust) leverages on the latest infrastructure and equipment and eminent faculty drawn from across the region to ensure the students are not only qualified but also capable. The college is part of the Association of Schools and Colleges in Optometry (ASCO) and also affiliated to the World Council of Optometry. The college offers a 4 year graduate course in optometry and faculty also train optometrists in specialised short term fellowships.
