The Prestea/Huni-valley municipal assembly has built and commissioned a fully furnished 2-unit KG classroom block for the Petepom MA School in the Prestea/Huni-valley municipality of the western region to help accommodate the increasing number of enrolment the school has seen.

The KG block which has auxillary facilities such as office for both staff and headmaster, furniture, kitchen, dining hall, store room, mechanized borehole with overhead stand and storage tank, water closet washrooms, white marker boards etc was funded by the district assembly’s common fund (DACF) with contribution from the Member of Parliament for the area Mrs. Barbara Oteng-Gyasi as part of her support to the development of education within the Prestea/Huni-valley constituency.

The municipal chief executive, Mr. Mozart K. Owuh, Speaking on Monday, 14th January, 2018 at a short ceremony held to commission the project said, similar projects are at various stages of completion in some parts of the municipality namely Dwabeng, Yareyeya and Bompieso. “The completion of these projects will increase the number of intake of students in the municipality.”

Mr. Owuh further stated that, government is determine to provide quality educational infrastructures to help improve on the quality of education “President Akufo-Addo says we must ensure and make quality education our priority especially at the early childhood stage to build a strong foundation for the children’s physical, mental, emotional and social development that prepares them for a lifetime.”

The MCE advised the authorities of the school to take proper care of the building especially the facilities and ensure proper maintenance culture so that it last longer. He expressed his profound gratitude to the MP, chief and elders of Petepom for their contribution towards the project and their commitment to the development of the municipality.

Mrs. Barbara Oteng-Gyasi, the Member of Parliament for Prestea/Huni-valley constituency who is also the deputy minister, lands and natural resources in her address said she will make sure the school benefits from the School Feeding Programme and appealed to parents to ensure their children attend school so that they (parents) can benefit from more government policies and social interventions.

“The success of government’s flagship programme Free SHS has increased the number of intake of students and has helped reduce burden on most parents, we are aware of the deficit in facilities in most schools that is why the double track system has been introduced as an interim measure to enable government deal with the infrastructure deficit”. She noted.

The Member of Parliament assured the municipal assembly and the municipal education directorate of her endless support in provision of similar facilities at various communities especially the deprived areas.

The Municipal Director of Education for Prestea/Huni-valley municipal, Mrs. Mary Vida Kwofie, applauded the MP and MCE for such an ultra-modern edifice. “ with this edifice I don’t see why a child will refuse coming to school, this is beautiful and very conducive for learning so I urge all parents to enroll their children, I promise that care would be given to the building due to the regular monitoring and effective supervision I have instituted.” She added.

The Chief of the Petepom, Nana Kwaku Appiah II, praised the MP and MCE for the project.
