UER: Govt Must Revive Factories Under 1D1F —BONABOTO
14.12.2018 LISTEN

Students from Bolgatanga, Nabddam, Bongo and Tongo (BONABOTO) in the Upper East Region wants government to revive the Zuarungu Meat and Kpalgo Tomato factories under the 1D1F to create more employment opportunities for the youth.

The two factories, until its collapse several years ago, served as a source of livelihood for hundreds of people in the region and beyond.

Speaking at the Second General Meeting of the Wa UDS Chapter of the Union in Wa, Mr Joachim Tizaaba Elbazar, BONABOTO National President, appealed to government to resuscitate the two factories as well as establish new ones as part of its One District One Factory policy to curb unemployment.

'We are appealing to government to as a matter of urgency revive some factories in northern Ghana as part of its flagship Policy programme of One District One Factory to employ graduates especially those in BONABOTO communities,' he said.

Mr Nba Asalma Richard, the Union Patron and Counsellor, urged the students to study hard in order to acquire the necessary skills for employment adding: 'You need certificates that would prepare you for the job market and you should count yourselves lucky for gaining admissions into this noble institution because some of your colleagues did not get the opportunity to be here'.

He said students should make it a habit to attend lectures all the time and avoid fidgeting with mobile phones when lectures are progress.

BONABOTO seeks to promote peace, development and education in northern Ghana.
