The Coalition Against Sexual Abuse (CASA), has expressed gratitude to the Minister of Education, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh for his support of their campaign to stop sex abuse in schools.

The group said in a statement that: “the Minister has consistently articulated his commitment, passion and targeted focus to end sexual violence within the world of education in Ghana.”

In the statement, a CASA Member, Elizabeth Olympio, said “We are delighted with the public stance of support offered to our Coalition by the Minister. His support boosts our campaign efforts in shining a light on the challenges faced by students when sexual abuse does occur.”

“Our hope is that such support is carried down and throughout schools' staff when it comes to dealing with incidents of sexual abuse by teachers against their students. CASA's #TimesUpGH campaign is working to make that light shine impactfully, so students can enjoy a sexual violence-free education.”

The #TimesUpGH campaign was launched in March 2018 with an initial eight-week focus on raising awareness in the media.

CASA is a coalition of Ghanaians from the worlds of policy, health, law, media, business and education working together to fight against sexual violence in Ghana since 2017.

As a result, CASA has been approached by schools challenged in dealing with sexual predators within their educational institutions.

CASA notably rallied support for a 4-year-old child in Assin after an allegation she had been defiled.

“CASA is committed to working in pursuit of ending sexual violence in schools, and throughout the Ghanaian society,” the statement said.
