Takoradi, Oct 15, GNA - Mr. Dickson Banahene, Western Regional Accountant of the Forestry Department has embezzled more than 400 million cedis, a team of Auditors after about one month audit of the books of the Department, has alleged in Takoradi on Saturday. The 33-year-old accountant who was employed two years ago is still on the run and security personnel have been on his heels since the deal was discovered when he was handing over his duties to another officer to enable him proceed on leave.

The source said Mr. Banahene allegedly forged and altered figures on cheques to facilitate the deal over a period. He vacated his Anaji residence, a suburb of Takoradi and had not been seen since the alleged embezzlement was uncovered.

Mr. James E. Manu, Regional Forestry Officer, had earlier confirmed to the GNA that auditors were going through the book of the Department to find out the total amount involved in the deal.
