The Deputy Communications Officer for NDC at the Bortianor Ngleshie Amanfrom, Hon. Edward Mortey, has said the current NPP government led by Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, should bow down their heads in shame and apologize to Ghanaians for deceiving them on the controversial Ameri deal.

He said, the president must come out clean on the deal, because in opposition, they claimed the $510 million Ameri deal under the Mahama led administration in 2015, amounted to corruption. Adding that, “but today after their mess for renegotiation over $1.2 billion, they claim it is expensive.”

Edward Mortey, made these assertions when speaking on the early morning show on Rejoice TV on 12th August, 2018. He however commended the minority caucus in Parliament, CDG-Ghana, IMANI-Africa and the Africa center for energy policy (ACEP), for raising the alarm on the Ameri deal.

According to him, Boakye Agyarko’s dismissal was hypocritical on the side of the President to cover up the rot that was masterminded at the presidency.

He claimed that, Nana Asante Bediatuo, secretary to the president, signed the letter from the Energy Minister, Boakye Agyako, which was sent to the presidency for executive approval dated 24th July, 2018, and he, (Nana Asante Bediatuo) appended his signature on it on 25th July, 2018, indication an executive approval from the president of the republic of Ghana.

“So both Nana Asante Bediatuo and the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori Atta, whom if the deal had gone through would be making financial obligations to it also misled the president, because I believe the documents had passed through hands at the presidency as well. Boakye Agyarko can’t single handedly go in for such a negotiation. Because, we are talking about over $1.2 billion and the president comes to tell Ghanaians and the world he was misled…. by who?”

The deputy communications officer further stated that, “Nana is sleeping on the job and he is not in charge because under his watch we have seen and witnessed the Ken Bond saga, the controversial Gh¢ 178 million KelniGVG, $2.5 million Ghana post GPS ,1.5 million litres BOST scandal, etc is a clear indication there is no hope in this Nana Addo led administration for Ghanaians.”

He also claimed that, the ‘galamsey’ operations were still ongoing massively, explaining that, a close source gave him the information that, the small scale miners who were believed to be sympathizers of the NPP were undergoing capacity building programs which when the ban is lifted, they would go back to continue their ‘galamsey’. “This is not fair,” he lamented.
