Contactum, one of the world's leading manufacturers of electricals and circuit protection products based in the United Kingdom, now in Ghana, on Thursday held a one-day training workshop on wiring and fire safety at the Paloma Hotel, Spintex Road for Ghanaian electricians.

The training program, which brought together about 60 Ghanaian electricians, offered them the chance to learn about Contactum's efficient and durable range of products providing safest means of power connection and supply.

Some of the Contactum products include Universal Serial Bus (USB) Sockets, Low Voltage Distribution, 17th Edition Fuse Boards, Circuit Protection, Wiring Accessories, Miniature Circuit Breaker (MCB) and Residential Current Circuit Breaker with Over-current Protection (RCBO).

It would be recalled that the company last year during its official launch introduced Residual Current Device Sockets (RCD) onto the Ghanaian market to combat house fires to ensure safety.

Over 75 years Contactum have introduced an ever increasing range of products to provide a one-stop-shop of over 6,000 catalogue items.

The Products being offered now includes over 12 ranges of white moulded, decorative metal plate, weather proof and metal clad wiring accessories.

In an interaction with the media, Mr. Olivier Kiese, the Export Manager for Contactum Ghana, said the RCD’s installed in main switches would reduce the current spate of fire outbreaks in the African Region and its accompanied harzard of electrocution.

He expressed worry over the mass influx of lower and substandard electrical products being imported into the region as one of the major factors to the rise in residential, commercial and industrial fire outbreaks

Mr Kiese said the RCDs and the other products were designed to meet the British Standards Institutions stringent electrical specification.

He said the RCD's was a life-saving device designed to prevent a person from getting a fatal electric shock touching something live such as a bare wire and also provides protection against electrical fires.
