Members of the National Service Personnel Association (NASPA) in the Savelugu-Nanton Municipality earlier today March 10, 2018 organized a clean-up exercise to help ensure sanity in the municipality.

The 5-hours exercise, which commenced at 7:30am and ended at about 11:30am, saw dozens of service personnels cladded in branded white outfits, teaming together at various vantage points to clean the municipality.

Some of the areas where the exercise took place included the Savelugu market, the principal streets, the National Health Insurance office, the Yoo-Naa's palace (Chief's palace), and the Savelugu Municipal Hospital.

Speaking during the exercise, president for the association, Mohammed Abdul-Karim, thanked members of NASPA for their massive turn-out for the programme, adding that, personnel within the municipality upholds the motto of the association which states " NASPA, ready to serve." According to him, " Notwithstanding the challenges facing Service personnel, they sacrificed their time and energy to embark on the exercise and therefore, deserves to be commended."

Mr. Abdul-Karim intimated that, as part of the association's social responsibility programmes, "the exercise is carried out to ensure the surroundings of Savelugu-Nanton municipal is cleaned and kept tidy, to ensure the healthy well-being of its residents."

Mr. Abdul-Karim called on all residents to ensure that the municipality is kept clean always, in order to avoid the outbreak of cholera and malaria in the area.

Meanwhile, both residents of the municipality and members of NASPA expressed their satisfaction and pledged to keep the Savelugu-Nanton municipal, neat always.

The clean-up exercise is the first of series of activities to be executed in the Municipality by the 2017/2018 NASPA, as part of its One Week Programme. A debate competition will be organized on Thursday, March 15, 2018, between the Savelugu Senior High School (SAVESS) and Pong-Tamale Senior High School (Pong-Tass). A quiz competition between some selected schools within the catchment area of the Municipality is also exepected to take place on March 15. A lecture on "Reproduction and Sexual Health" will be organized for students of Savess and Pong-Tass to help equip them with adequate knowledge about the topic.
