Education Vice Chancellor Of Cape Coast Technical University Suspended

The National Council for Tertiary Education (NCTE) on Tuesday suspended Professor Lawrence Atepor, the Vice Chancellor of the Cape Coast Technical University (CCTU), to allow investigations into allegations of impropriety.

This was stated in a letter dated February 26, 2018, signed by Prof Mohammed Salifu, the Executive Secretary of NCTE and copied to Minister of Education, the Minister of State in charge of Tertiary Education, Vice Rector CCTU and Registrar of CCTU, further asked him to proceed on leave.

The letter alleged that there were many breaches of rules, disregard for due processes and directives from the judicial authorities as well as lack accountability in the use of resources of the institution.

It said: 'In view of the seriousness of these allegations and following appropriate consultations in the absence of a Governing Council, I am to inform you that a decision has been taken to suspend you from office as Rector of the CCTU with immediate effect".

The letter explained that the Vice Chancellor's suspension was to allow an appropriate investigations by the lawful agencies to ascertain the said malpractices in order to allow Ghana's foremost Technical University to function effectively.

It further ordered him to hand over to the Pro- Vice Chancellor until otherwise determined by an investigative authority and urged all to remain calm and lawful and support the investigation with any relevant information to hasten the processes of the investigations. GNA
