A delegation of the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference[GCBC] has paid one of their annual periodic meetings to the Speaker, Catholic Members of Parliament and the Catholic community of parliament.
This constitutes an annual package of one of the pastoral duties the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference. This may even come off twice in a year when time allows.
Wednesday, February 21.2018 visit saw five Bishops in attendance The day began with a Eucharistic celebration by five Bishops and several priests from the National Catholic Secretariat. Most Reverend Peter Atuahene, Bishop of Goaso, the main celebrant was flanked by Archbishops Philip Naameh, President of the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference and Gabriel Charles Palmer-Buckle, Vice-President, Bishops Peter Paul Angkier of Damongo Diocese, Gbriel Edoe Kumordji, of the Keta-Akatsi Diocese and in-charge of Donkorkrom. The homilist, Bishop Atuahene explained the importance of the season of Lent and the graces in prayer, good works, and penance.
These virtues, he said, should not be limited to Lent only but should be practiced on one’s earthly pilgrimage with perseverance to the very end as Our Father in heaven would be beside us and take us home.
Bishop Atuahene asked parliamentarians to be mindful of the obligation to the constituents they represent and the duty to talk on behalf of the poor, the marginalized and the downtrodden. Accompanying the Bishops were Very Rev.Fr.Lazarus Anondee, Secretary General of the National Catholic Secretariat, Very Rev.Fr.Wisdom Larweh, Assistant Secretary; Very Rev.Fr.Clement Adjei, Executive Director.Justice and Peace; Very RevFr.Dieudonne, Executive Secretary, Social Social Communications and Mr. Francis Kwaku, Catholic Liaison Officer to Parliament. The Odorkor St. John the Baptist Choir sang during the Liturgy.
The Prelates and their entourage joined the Speaker and Catholic Parliamentarians at the usually closed-door session during which they discuss concerns of national interest.
