First Baptist Church Moves To Give The Church A Facelift

The Senior Paster of the First Baptist church, Tema has observed the need to build modern and comfortable church facilities to advance the work of God.

'I agree with you that the Lord is in our hearts, but you will also agree with me that we need a building to work in and a place to worship the savior; we also need very beautiful offices to work in for people to know that God has been gracious to us,' he said.

Reverend David Kwame said this on Sunday in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on the sidelines of the sod-cutting ceremony for the commencement of a multi-purpose development project at the church premises.

He informed that the work of God could go on better and people could serve God better if places of worship and office facilities for the church workers were available and in good shape.

Reacting to whether the church was only interested in building auditoriums and not catering for the needy, Rev. Kwame said, 'I say this to the glory of God, this is a church that supports people that are in need. In fact in every month we have about 21 to 22 people we support financially, the aged and those that are sick; people that need money to trade, people that need rent, the church take such responsibilities.'

He admonished the newly nominated Special Prosecutor the President to be fair and bring justice to the people of Ghana, adding that 'Corruption is not just a perception, corruption is real. I believe with the coming of the Special Prosecutor it would be a warning to all that if we take the nation for granted, the law with catch up with us.'

Mr. Samuel Quartey, the Project Architect and a member of the church said that the church had a Life Chapel Teen service that did not have a good place of worship, and so the project was going to create avenue for their services.

'They worshiped in a small building we thought was too old and in addition had a small capacity, and we are also struggling with office spaces for the church secretariat, counseling rooms, etc. therefore we thought we should do a better utilization of the land,' he said.

The project, which would cost about two million dollars, would be funded through contributions of members with the first phase expected to be completed between 12 to 15 weeks.

Mr. and Mrs. Francis Tuyee, who were founding members of the church and had been fellowshipping with the church for over forty years, cut the sod for the commencement of the project.

They expressed joy to have been part of the wonderful history is seeing the church from a small beginning to this level.
