A three-day training workshop to assist journalists to adequately report on migration has opened at Akyawkrom in the Ejisu-Juaben Municipality.

It is being organized by an NGO, Media Response, with support from the European Union (EU) and the ECOWAS Commission.

This is to help them to have better understanding of the ECOWAS Protocol on free movement of persons in the sub-region.

Attending are selected journalists from various media houses in the Ashanti Region.

Mr. Samuel Dodoo, the Executive Director of the NGO, asked that the media went the extra mile to highlight and promote the rights of migrants, destination choices and safer migration practices.

He said to effectively do this, the journalist needed to sufficiently educate themselves about the national and international framework on migration.

That, he added, would enable them to overcome any prejudices and negative perceptions that could affect the quality of their reportage.

Mr. Dodoo underlined the need to provide accurate, fair and balanced reports that would aid the public to uphold the rights of migrants.

The training workshop comes amid growing global concern over migration and has the added goal of building a network of journalists to promote safer intra-regional migration. GNA
