Obuasi MCE Welcomes New Entrants To School On “My First Day At School

The Obuasi Municipal Assembly, led by the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Elijah Adansi-Bonah, the Coordinating Director, Justice Amoah, MP for Obuasi West Dr. Boakye Yiadom and the Municipal Education Director Maxwell Anthony Amoako on Wednesday, 13th September, 2017 , visited some primary schools in the Municipality to welcome new entrants.

The practice, which is done every new academic year, saw the team visiting six different schools in the Municipality. The team was made up of two groups,representing the East and West constituencies in Obuasi. The Obuasi East team was led by the Member of Paliament for Obuasi East,Dr. Boakye Yiadom,the Municipal Coordinating Director and some members of the Education Directorate whiles the Obuasi West team was led by the Municipal Chief Executive,Hon Elijah Adansi-Bonah.

The Schools visited included , Sanso Methodist Primary ,Memiriwa Primary,New Dokyiwa Primary,St. Joseph Primary,Islamic Primary and Len clay LA Primary school.The enroment on the day was very encouraging and the pupils were very excited to receive some items from the team. Drinking cups, biscuits, drinks and toffees were given to each new entrant.

The headmistress of Sanso Primary school in a short presentation to the team,appealed to the Municipal Assembly to provide the school with a befitting KG block to enhance effective teaching and learning . He asked the Chief Executive not to abandon his already initiated KG block which he started as an Assembly Member of Sanso before he was appointed by the President as the Municipal Chief Executive.

He again advised parents in the Sanso community to eschew the practise where children would have to go to galamsey sites instead of going to school for formal education. He again reminded parents not to use financial situations as an excuse, because education is free and the school also benefits from the national school feeding programme.

At Memeriwa Primary, the enrollment was not encouraging at the time of the visit, though the teacher in charge told the team the number has decreased compared to the previous years.

At Len Clay M/A, at Odumasi, the enrollment was encouraging and some parents the team met were very happy with the team’s visit and the items presented to the children to encourage them to be in school all the time.

Because Odumasi is a farming community , Hon. Dr. Boakye Yiadom encouraged parents to enrol their school going children in school to benefit from the Government's educational intervention programmes like the Free Senior High School. He commended the headmaster and teachers for their support and cooperation in building a better Ghana, a better Obuasi and a better Odumasi. “The President is much particular with quality education and we all have roles to play as good citizens and parents to help build that dream”, he ended.

The Municipal Chief Executive, Hon Elijah Adansi-Bonah in his assessment of the tour told the media the essence of such tours which he described as a morale booster for the young ones to be punctual in school. He also disclosed that, the challenges he saw in the schools including dilapidated school structures, have already been captured in this year's budget hence they would be fixed very soon.

In total, the enrollments in almost all the six schools visited this year was encouraging, every child in all the schools visited received items to be taken home to encourage them not to stay at home.
