22.06.2017 LISTEN

A young man who was allegedly brutalized by two police officers at Fiapre, in the Sunyani West District, has indicated that he only wants justice and not a monetary compensation.

In an exclusive interview on Suncity radio in Sunyani, Bright Badu, the alleged victim, strongly dismissed any possibility of a monetary settlement for the ordeal he went through in the hands of the two police officers, stressing that he wishes to set an example, by pursuing the matter to its logical conclusion through the Court.

“I am not interested in taking money from anyone. From my infancy to date, it is God who has been providing me with my needs and I don’t need money from anyone. All I want is Justice,” he said. “I want to use my case to set an example for others. Police brutality must stop and I want to pursue my case to its logical conclusion through the Court,” he added.

Bright also indicated that one of the officers who allegedly assaulted him has been transferred to a village, though he could not be sure of the veracity of that story because he only heard it on a radio station. “I heard on radio that one of the officers has been transferred from the Municipal command to a village but I don’t know how true it is,” he said.

He also indicated his disappointment over the pace at which the case is progressing. “I am not happy at all at the pace at which the case is moving. I wish the case would be in Court by now,” he said. Bright, who was also allegedly forcibly asked to drink the blood from a cut to one of the police officers indicated that a medical checkup had come out negative of any disease but another checkup was scheduled in two months time.

Bright Badu was allegedly stabbed by two police officers who were sent to arrest him after a co-tenant reported Bright, over a domestic assault.
