Accra, May 1, GNA- The Greater Accra Keep-Fit Clubs Association (GAKFCA) has on Monday, donated assorted items to the Echoing Hills Village, a non-profit residential care facility for orphans and young people with disabilities located at Ogbojo, Madina.

The items, include bags of rice and sugar, detergents, toiletries, clothing, soft drinks, bags and boxes of water among others worth thousands of cedis, were donated to the facility to assist in caring for the inmates.

The donation, which formed part of GAKFCA's observation of Ghana's 60 years of independence, was on the theme: 'Supporting the Deprived in Society through Physical Fitness.'

Mr Alphonse Bebli, the President of the Association said they saw the need for the donation knowing that Ghana was celebrating 60 years of independence and people were celebrating it in diverse ways.

Mr Bebli said: 'It is our hope that the managers of the orphanage will use the items for the intended purpose for the children to benefit from them.'

He said they were proud the items were received in good faith and urged other corporate bodies and groups to emulate the gesture to assist facilities like the Echoing Hills Village and other orphanages.

The Reverend Lawrence Lamina, the Director at the Echoing Hills Village said the items donated by the GAKFCA were the exact items they needed to run the home and expressed appreciation for the kind gesture.

'It is going to go a long way to provide good nutrition and healthy provisions that we need for the children.

'We are very grateful to them for demonstrating this love to the children and I am encouraging other groups to emulate this generous gesture,' Rev Lamina said.

GAKFCA is an association of keep-fit clubs in Accra with the aim of promoting fitness activities within the area as well as monitor and regulate the activities of the various keep-fit clubs.

According to the President, it is their responsibility to encourage more Ghanaians to join keep-fit clubs and engage in fitness to promote a healthy lifestyle.
