Twumasi moves to douse tension over MCE's nomination

Ejisu (Ash), April 29, GNA - The man many had tipped to become the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Ejisu-Juaben but was overlooked, has moved to calm rising tension and so much heat generated by the nomination of Madam Beatrice Serwaah Derchie to the position.

Mr. Kwaku Ntim Twumasi, hugely popular and admired by the rank and file of the governing party in the municipality, has appealed to everybody to respect the decision of the Minister of Magic.

He asked that they all united solidly behind the nominee and supported her to succeed.

His plea comes amid reports that the youth of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) were planning to hit the streets in a massive show of disapproval of the nomination of Madam Derchie.

The outpour of raw emotions - anger and pain, has been such that, some are publicly threatening to invoke powerful deities to strike dead any assembly member, who betrayed the people they are representing, by voting to endorse her nomination.

It is against this background that the display of level-headedness by Mr. Twumasi is both significant and a wise thing to do.

Addressing a press conference at Ejisu, he called for the party's supporters to step back from doing anything that could cause disaffection for the government.

'It should not be lost on any of us that we have a four-year mandate to govern and cannot afford any unnecessary distractions', he added.

Mr. Twumasi, 40, a product of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and now confined to a wheel chair as a result of a road crash whilst serving in the British army, is much loved by the chiefs and people in the municipality for his humility, integrity and resourcefulness.

He has been running a successful business and is acknowledged for the tremendous contribution he made to the party's election victory in the area.

Madam Derchie's appointment is widely seen as purely a reward for her loyalty to the NPP.
