The Ashanti regional branch of the Ghana National Association of Garages (GNAG) would go to the polls somewhere in March this year to elect zonal executives.

The Regional Chairman of the Association, Mr. Osei Bonsu, who disclosed this, indicated that the exercise is intended to correct anomalies regarding provisions in the union's constitution, and correct them for the effective running of the association.

He said members of the Ashanti regional branch would be afforded the opportunity to fully participate in the drive to clean all constitutional anomalies, with regards to the constitution of zonal executives, hence the process to conduct of fresh elections to ensure that zonal executives whose tenure are not in conformity with the constitution are corrected.

According to Chairman Osei Bonsu, the constitution gives a particular zonal executive a four-year term and an additional four year option.

He expressed worry about the current situation, where most executives have had their tenure long overdue, and insists on ensuring that only those who started their tenure during Nana Oppong's term as regional chairman would be given the chance to contest for another term.

He encouraged the new faces to pick forms at the regional office to contest in the impending elections, before the expiry date of filing nominations on February 14, 2017, to be followed by vetting, campaigning and the subsequent polls at the close of March this year.

The Chairman noted that members must have membership cards to be eligible to vote and be voted for.

He said members with cards must be of good standing, and that those without cards must obtain new cards at the same office, but must ensure the payment of dues spanning three months to qualify to participate in the impending exercise.

Chairman Bonsu indicated that the election will be conducted in all the zones constituting the Ashanti regional association, notably Obuasi, Ejura, Konongo, Effiduasi, Bekwai and Mampong, to initiate new executives to steer the affairs of the association for the next four years.

According to him, the Chairmanship position will attract a fee of GH¢300; Vice Chairman – GHc200; Treasurer and Organiser will respectively pay GH¢150.
