Injunction At Tanokrom

A Sekondi High Court has placed an injunction on the district level election at West Tanokrom in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis.

The plaintiff, Samuel Kwesi Anderson, is the immediate past assembly member of the area and is seeking re-election for a fourth term.

DAILY GUIDE learnt that the western regional and the national offices of the Electoral Commission had been served with the writ accordingly.

Samuel Kwesi Anderson was disqualified by the EC yesterday for allegedly falsifying his academic qualification.

He was accused of stating on his nomination forms that he was an Advanced level ('A' level) certificate holder instead of Ordinary ('O' level). However, Anderson has described it as a mere error.

He claimed that errors were bound to happen and that it was in the same vein that the EC erred in stating his (Anderson's) occupation on the notice of polls.

'I am, therefore, through the injunction calling on the EC to justify my disqualification,' Mr Anderson stated.

Charles Fynn Thompson, the campaign coordinator of the plaintiff, pointed out that they were sure of getting the EC to rescind its decision.

When DAILY GUIDE called the Western Regional Boss of the Electoral Commission, Stephen Opoku-Mensah, he confirmed receipt of the writ and explained that today's district level elections would not take place in West Tanokrom.

He indicated that in all 1,650 candidates were contesting in the polls in the 544 electoral areas in the region.
