Regional Minister called on workers to shun strike actions

Sunyani Sept. 30, GNA - Nana Kwadwo Seinti, the Brong Ahafo Regional Minister, observed on Thursday that, threats by workers to embark on industrial action, was not the better option to seek redress to their grievances.

He said dialogue was the better option for a lasting solution to all their concerns.

Nana Seinti who was speaking at the Regional Best Teacher award ceremony in Sunyani, called on workers to abandon street protests in pursuit of their demands.

He stressed: "You don't belong to the streets."

Deserving teachers in the Primary, Junior Secondary School, Senior Secondary School, Teacher Training and Basic Science categories were presented with certificates, and consumer items.

Nana Seinti noted that the global technological advancement posed new challenges to teachers hence the need for them to upgrade their skills.

He said the award scheme was instituted to motivate teachers to give of their best and aspire for professional excellence.

"The government will continue to sustain the scheme and improve it," he said.

Nana Seinti congratulated the award winners and expressed the hope that their colleagues would emulate their commitment to hard work. Mrs. Akua Akubuor Debrah, Regional Director of Education, said the award winners met the required qualities of efficiency, effectiveness and moral uprightness.

Mr Daniel Opoku, a Tutor at Twene Amanfo Secondary/Technical School who was adjudged the best Senior Secondary School Teacher, said the award would spur them on to give of their best.
