An assassination attempt on the Fulani chief of Yeji in the Pru District of the Brong Ahafo Region, Ali Issah Abubakari, by one Musa Bayarlo failed, and he is in the grip of the police.

Speaking to the press at Yeji in the Brong Ahafo Region, Chief Ali Issah Abubakari disclosed that Musa Bayarlo, a Fulani herdsman, attacked him three times at the market and his house.

Chief Ali told the press that the first incidence happened when the Yeji Police Commander, Mr Bassan, called him to the police station when one Fulani boy was arrested for allowing his cattle to destroy someone's farm.  Upon arrival at the police station, he saw the boy and asked the father's name so that the police could trace the owner of the cattle.

It was at that point that Musah Baryarlo questioned Chief Ali on why he did that instead of asking the police to release the boy unconditionally.

He said Baryalo became angry and started insulting him but he did not respond to his tantrums but chose to go to the boy's father to sort things out.

He said he did not meet the boy's father when he went to the house but was told that the man had gone to the cattle market so he followed up to the place only to meet Baryalo, who pulled a sharp cutlass in an attempt to slash him but a Good Samaritan snatched the cutlass from him and the matter was reported to the police.

The police quickly arrested him and later granted him bail pending arrangements to send him to court.

According to the Fulani chief, after being granted bail, Baryalo told one of his friends that he will kill him (Chief Ali) and ran away.

He said on his way to his house on that fateful day in the night, Baryalo traced him and hit his head with a big stick.  He said he became unconscious and some people who heard his cry for help saved his life and took him to the St Mathias Hospital at Yeji.

Baryalo was later arrested and arraigned before court where he was remanded for one month.  Ali Issah   said when Baryalo appeared at the Yeji Magistrate Court on July 23, 2015, he was granted court bail.

The Fulani chief said three days after Baryalo was granted court bail, Baryalo sneaked to his house in the night with a locally manufactured pistol and a cutlass but his sons overpowered him and collected the pistol and cutlass from him and sent him to the police station where he is locked up.

Fulani elders in Yeji are, therefore, appealing to the police and Attorney General to come to the aid of their chief before anything untoward happens to him.
