Accra Sept. 20, GNA - A driver charged for manhandling a policeman, pulled him from a truck and dragged him into a nearby gutter near Nima, Accra was on Monday remanded in custody for sentencing by a Circuit Court in Accra.

Latif Idrrisu, charged with careless driving, failing to send vehicle to the police station, use of vehicle without advance warning triangle, reflectors and using vehicle with shattered windscreen, pleaded guilty. The court remanded him for sentencing on October 8.

The fact of the case was that on September 18, this year, a team of Policemen undertook traffic checks along the Nima Highway.

Prosecution said during the checks, General Sergeant John Nyatuame detected that Iddrisu who was driving the KIA Truck had no warning triangle, reflectors and his windscreen had been shattered.

Sgt Nyatuame stopped Iddrisu and pointed out his offences to him and asked Iddrisu to accompany him to the Nima Police Station.

Prosecution said Iddrisu obliged and when they reached Nima roundabout, he stopped and told the Sgt. Nyatuame that he was not going anymore.

Iddrisu became furious, opened the KIA truck gate, held the two legs of Sgt Nyatuame and pulled him from the car and dragged him to nearby gutter.

Iddrisu pounced on Sgt Nyatuame and beat him and sped off but a Good Samaritan assisted Sgt Iddrisu to chase him up to Alajo.

Prosecution said Iddrisu who jumped into another car, sped off again to Ablemkpe but he plunged into a gutter.

Iddrisu escaped, but was apprehended by some people at Ablemkpe who handed him over to the Police.
