Amansie West elects District Chief Farmer

Antoakrom (Ash), Aug 17, GNA - Nana Alex Mensah alias Opanin Boy, a 59-year-old Cocoa Farmer at Manso-Mem, was last Friday elected as the Amansie West District Chief Farmer at Antoakrom.

All the 66 delegates from the 33 cocoa societies in the District voted for him after Nana Asenso Bonsu, the other contestant had withdrawn at the last hour.

Nana Mensah, who would hold office for four years, thanked the delegates for the confidence reposed in him and promised to use his experience to serve the farmers.

Nana Owusu Amankwatia, Ashanti Regional Chief Farmer commended the delegates for the maturity they exhibited during the election and said it showed that they understood democracy.

He asked them to be vigilant on the mass cocoa spraying gangs and to report those who stole materials for the exercise and sold to farmers.

Nana Amankwatia urged them to invest more in the education of their children to enable them grow up to attain high positions and to become useful citizens.

Mr Michael Ampiah, District Quality Control Officer, warned them against smuggling their produce and said those caught would not be spared.

He asked the farmers maintain their farms to increase production to get more money.
