The Special Delegate's Congress of the New Patriotic Party was held to prune the seven aspirants, who filed to vie for the flagbearership position of the party, to five.

The party would hold another congress on October 18th 2014 to choose a flagbearer to lead the party in 2016 general elections.

The delegates, who took part in the congress yesterday, were made up of constituency chairmen, regional executives, Members of Parliament, National Executive Committee members, Founding members, Members of the Council of Elders.

Some jubilant supporters of Nana Akuffo Addo told DAILY GUIDE that the delegates had indicated that Alan Kyeremanten, also known as Alan Cash, was not the right candidate for the 2016 elections.

A staunch supporter of Nana Addo, Abdul Aziz Abubakar, in an interview with DAILY GUIDE, expressed his happiness about the victory of Nana Addo in the region.

'We, the delegates in the Western region, want to tell Mr Alan Kyeremanten that he should withdraw and throw his support behind Nana Addo for the 2016 elections otherwise we will humiliate him come October 18,' Henry Kwofie, one of the delegates stressed.

Some of the delegates congratulated Joe Ghartey, one of the aspirants and a native of the region for garnering seven votes.

The election was supervised by the Regional Director of the Electoral Commission, Stephen Opoku-Mensah and coordinated by Freddie Blay, First Vice National Chairman of the NPP.
