Seventeen killed in accident

Mankranso (Ash), March.20, GNA -Seventeen people died on the spot and more than 20 sustained injuries when a Metro Mass transport bus collided with a Mercedes Benz bus at Attakrom near Mankranso in the Ahafo Ano South District on Thursday.

Two others, who were among those who were rushed to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) with serious injuries died soon on admission.

Those who sustained minor injuries were taken to the Mankranso Government hospital.

Briefing the Ghana News Agency on the accident at Mankranso, Chief Inspector Carl Michael Adjeng of the Mankranso Police said, the dead included two students of Garden City Commercial College (GADECO) in Kumasi and Dormaa Secondary School at Dormaa Ahenkro in the Brong Ahafo Region and a three- year old child.

He said the Metro bus which was returning from Tepa at about 7.30 pm and in an attempt to avoid a pot-hole, veered off its lane into that of the on-coming Benz bus which was carrying passengers, stationery and hardware to Mim in Brong Ahafo and they collided head-on, killing all the 17 passengers on board the Benz bus.

According to Chief Inspector Adjeng, all the dead had been identified by their relatives while, the bodies of the two, who died at KATH had been deposited at the mortuary and investigations into the accident continue.
