Black Consciousness
01 JUN 2013 LISTEN

The Ghanaian system today has now changed from the system we used to know. What at all is wrong? People now use all dubious means to get power or fight for people sometimes they probably don't even know to get them power without caring about whoever is hurt. In the olden days Ghana, was the Gateway to Africa but now Ghana is the gateway for cocaine.

Our cities are now dangerous to be used especially in the nights simply because you will be robbed, kidnapped or your car will be snatched. Are all these a curse from our Ancestors who fought tiresomely with their blood to lift the image of Ghana some years back.

Ghana is blessed with all the natural resources one can think of but we still suffer. We have all the best Agronomists, Researchers and Scientists in our universities but we can not produce our own food to feed ourselves, people rather travel abroad with all the acquired knowledge for their personal gains without thinking about Ghana. We no more enjoy the independence Dr Kwame Nkrumah gained for us because Ghanaians have conceived, given birth and natured dependency to grow so we are afraid to take risks and be independent.

Most of our support in-terms of food, money and the most painful of all second-hand clothing including under wears are imported and early Saturday mornings people rash for them. Where have all the tailors and seamstresses in our country gone to?

We blame Politicians unnecessarily for our plights. Why should it be so? Instead of Ghanaians teaming up with any sitting government for a better Ghana, people undermine sitting governments if they feel their choice is not in power.

We have abandoned our roots, values, culture, the national anthem, the pledge, our flag colours which use to instill the strength and faith in us to unite as one people. How many schools in Ghana now recite the national anthem and the pledge which uses to be done during the good old days at assembles?

Children of today are abreast with western culture but don't even know about that of Ghana. Our dressing and music now is more of western than that of our culture. When you start talking about the roots and culture of Africans in the mist of people they think you are 'colo' (old fashioned). Words such as 'modernization and technology' are now used to justify them. Strange diseases with strange names are now our portion.

Today Ghanaians only boasts of past legacies that we inherited from our forefathers, such as hospitality, the gateway to Africa, first African country to gain independence. What current legacy are we leaving for the next generation to boast of?

Are we aware that JAH created us to take good care of Ghana to account for some day to come and not only Politicians will account?

My few questions to Ghanaians are:
Can we give a better account? Have we toiled enough with our blood? Do we have a current legacy? Are our ancestors happy? Do we love Ghana?

One love Ghana.
