Accra, Oct. 10, Evening News – The former Minister of the Interior, Nii Okaija Adamafio, the former Inspector General of Police, Peter Nanfuri and Dr Kofi Orleans-Linsey, a Ghanaian businessman will be put before court for their role in a South African Company-Ghana Government deal to supply operational vehicles to the Police Service.

The charges preferred against the former Minister, Dr Orleans-Linsey and the former IGP are conspiracy to defraud and causing financial loss to the state. A source close to the Attorney-General’s office when contacted confirmed the story to “The Evening News” and said the case would be sent to court before the end of this month.

The source said the directorate of Public Prosecutions within the Attorney-General’s office had finished studying the docket on the case submitted to it by police investigators. It said the case had delayed because of further investigations into it. The source hinted that certain individuals and corporate bodies are also prepared to testify in court.

The government entered into an agreement with a South African Company, “Rhuemec”, to supply semi-armoured cars to the Police Service. Subsequently, Dr Orleans-Liney who claimed to be a representative of the South African Company, allegedly diverted the contract to a company of which he (Dr Orleans-Liney) was a director. The source declined to disclose the amount involved in the original contract.

After diverting the contract, the former Minister of Interior and Dr Orleans-Liney caused to be transferred, the amount of monies involved in the contract to the accounts of his company, Grange Ways Limited in the United States. It said the company could not supply the type of cars that the government of Ghana wanted from the South African company.

Even the type of vehicles supplied did not meet the specification in the original contract and again the company supplied fewer cars than expected.
