THE Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has vindicated the former Chief of Atwima, Nana Kwadwo Agyeibi, over allegations of multiple sales of lands which led to his destoolment a couple of years ago.
Nana Agyeibi suffered a humiliating destoolment in 2010 after some individuals, including a local movie star, Kofi Adu, aka “Agyakoo” reported him to the overlord of Ashanti, accusing him of engaging in multiple sales of lands to them.
The then Chief, who failed to defend himself after being summoned before the Asantehene, was subsequently destooled after which Nana Agyei Brimpong was installed as the new Chief to take over.
However, after two and half years of battling his innocence over the allegations, the truth of the matter came to light last week and the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has formally cleared Nana Agyeibi of any wrong doing with respect to sales of lands during his regime as the Chief for the Atwima community.
The truth of the matter, according to reports gathered by DAILY STAR came to light after the successor, Nana Agyei Brimpong II failed to answer questions concerning the sale of lands at Atwima community during interrogation at the Manhyia Palace last week.
Sources at the Manhyia Palace told the paper that Nana Agyei Brimpong allegedly lied that the said lands were sold by his predecessor and that he was only giving them out to the rightful owners as his predecessor had already collected monies.
His answer, according to information, did not go down well with the Asantehene, who was said to have been informed adequately about the matter, said he did not destool the ex-chief because of multiple sale of lands but rather some indiscretion on his part.
Meanwhile, Nana Agyeibi has expressed his gratitude to the Asantehene for setting the records straight stressing “I always knew that a day like this will come but was a matter of time,”
He expressed his desire to continue to serve the people of Atwima, even though he is no longer the chief of the area.
