Kumasi, Sept. 5, GNA - The Department of Geography and Tourism of the University of Cape Coast (UCC) in collaboration with the Alan Guttmancher Institute of USA, has donated two million cedis to the Otumfuo Education Fund.

The donation was in appreciation of the co-operation of the youth in the Kumasi Metropolis during the first phase of a research on understanding the dynamics of youth behaviour in the era of HIV/AIDS, which is being conducted by the Department in four districts, including Kumasi.

Other districts in which the research is being conducted include the Accra Metropolis and Tolon-Kumbungu.

Presenting the money at the Manhyia Palace on Thursday, Mr Edem Amenumey, Leader of the research team, said the project aimed at raising awareness of young people's sexual and reproductive health needs with regard to HIV/AIDS and unwanted pregnancy.

He said in order to show appreciation to the participating communities it was decided to donate two million cedis to each of them for their co-operation.

Mr Amenumey said the students decided to donate to the Otumfuo Education Fund in view of the tremendous assistance the fund was giving towards the education of the youth and children.

Nana Brefo Boateng, Executive Secretary of the Fund, who received the money, thanked the students for the gesture and urged them to market the fund to their colleagues to enable them to contribute to it.
