Accra, March 27, GNA – The Second African Union Summit slated for May 25, under the auspices of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration has been launched as a way of training and educating the youth on the workings of the African Union.

The three-day summit would be held on the theme: “Boosting Intra-Africa Trade through Entrepreneurship” would involve students from all Member countries across Africa.

This year's summit, as part of the African Union Day celebration, would be chaired by selected outstanding youth, who would serve on the Secretariat as officials and others who would apply to be participants would be chosen as delegates.

Speaking at the launch, Mr John Armah, Chairman, Model African Union stated that delegates would be officials who apply to be chosen through a selective process.

He said that for one to be considered as a delegate, the applicant must send his or her detailed curriculum vitae to [email protected]

An activity for the summit includes tour of some principal African Union Monuments in Accra to be escorted by the police, and that the delegates, who would become diplomats would join Ghana's diplomats at the official African Union Day Flag raising ceremony.

Mr Lawrence Muli, Advocacy and Communications, African Union Youth Division would organise a training workshop from March 26-27 as part of the summit.

“There would be technical exchange on the structures, organs and the Model AU weeklong summit in November at the AU Headquarters and the Africa Youth Innovation and Creativity Awards,” he added.

He noted that awards and certificates would be presented to participants from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration in addition to tools on democracy, research writing skills, and tools on public speaking.

Mr Armah said the highly consultative meeting would provide adequate security for delegates by the Ghana Police Service alongside other State agencies to ensure a smooth summit, which would simulate the Executive Council and Summit of the African Union.

The first ever Model African Union Summit held last year was on the theme: Accelerating the role of the Youth in Sustainable Development”, and more than 200 student leaders across Africa participated.
