Amoawi (Ash), Dec. 5, GNA - Construction work has begun on a 500,000.00 dollarsultra-modern library for the Amoawi Methodist Basic School in the Offinso Municipality of the Ashanti Region.

On completion, it would be hooked to the internet and equipped with facilities to allow for on-line reading and research by users, particularly students.

It is being funded by the “Dr Yaw Safo Foundation”, a charitable organisation that has been spearheading educational development in deprived communities in the municipality.

Dr Kusi Fordjour, a US-based Ghanaian Medical Practitioner, performing the ceremony to mark the official commencement of work on the project, said the goal was to present students in the area with the opportunity to broaden their knowledge.

He said given the limited teaching and learning facilities, the on-line reading and other programmes would play vital role in the promotion and development of education.

Dr Fordjour, an executive member of the Foundation, said the body is determined to collaborate with the traditional rulers, municipal assembly and other stakeholders to bring quality education to the people in Offinso.

The Foundation would continue to assist in the provision of classrooms, supply of computers and other educational aids.

He said the critical importance of education to socio-economic progress of both the individual, community and the nation could not be discounted.

This is why all must act to make education not only accessible but to improve the quality and invited Ghanaians abroad to do more to support the sector.

Mr Moses Fordjour, a Patron of the Foundation, advised students to study hard, adding there is no short cut to success.
