The Vice-President, Mr John Dramani Mahama, has urged Ghanaians to renew their minds and begin to see Ghana as an entity that requires their contribution to develop irrespective of their political, ethnic or religious affiliations.

He said Ghanaians must not play politics with the country’s economy, but rather collaborate to grow the country and open up opportunities for all.

Mr Mahama was opening the national convention of the Full Gospel Business Men’s Fellowship International (FGBMFI) in Accra yesterday.

Held on the theme: “Wake Up! Let’s Renew Our Minds”, the convention afforded the members the opportunity to take stock of activities of the previous year and strategise for the coming year.

The Vice-President said the task of nation-building was a collective responsibility, since the government’s job was to create the opportunity, while the citizens were expected to take advantage of those opportunities to create wealth

He charged the private sector to explore the opportunities created by the government to grow their businesses.

He gave an assurance that the government would continue to create the enabling environment for the private sector to thrive.

Mr Mahama said the theme for the convention was appropriate as it emphasised the need for Ghanaians to wake up from national inertia to develop the country.

Besides, he said, the theme coincided with the Better Ghana Agenda, which required all Ghanaians to be on board to quicken the pace of the nation’s development.

On the recent $3 billion loan approved by Parliament, the Vice-President said the loan was crucial and indicated that about $800 million would be used for the Western enclave for the gas infrastructure to ensure cheaper power.

He, therefore, assured the business community that Ghana still had space to take loans and repay them.

The National President of FGBMFI, Mr Timothy E. Ati, said a renewed mind would enable them to see themselves “the way the Lord sees us, identify who we are in the Lord, discover the potential the Lord has planted in us”.

He said task to evangelise Ghana would be easily accomplished if all denominational, tribal and cultural barriers were eliminated to pave way for love and unity in the Lord.

Mr Ati asked members to pray for Ghana for the sustenance of peace before, during and after next year’s elections.
