The deception of June 4.

The deception of June 4.
04.06.2010 LISTEN

There they go again
Celebrating what should not be celebrated
In order to continue to throw red dust
Into the already red eyes of the mass of the people

But the mass of the people can see clearly now
They can see through their discerning red eyes
That what happened on that dreadful, dark day
That fateful day of June 4 was never a revolution
It was rather an uprising
A bloody self-seeking uprising

There they go again
Reminding the nation once again
Of those blood-thirsty vampires of that era
Junior officers and the ranks against senior officers

Yes, the young and the lean looking soldiers
Against the old and pot-bellied soldiers
The hungry soldiers on foot
Against the well nourished soldiers in posh vehicles

Soon that anger was extended to the populace
Who were ever-ready to embrace anybody and anything

Yes, whoever and whatever that would improve their lot

Young intellectuals threw in their weight
Speeches were tailored for the public speakers
Those who could rant and gesticulate were sought
Workers were mobilized to reject their superiors
Discipline came crumbling down
And productivity that was no where to be admired
Came to a sudden, grinding halt

There they go again
Reminding us all again of that terrible era
It was an era of who could shout most
An era of who could best squeeze his face
An era of who could best display that beast in man
Yes, an era of naked brutality and sadism
It was an era for senseless killers to go on rampage

And the uninitiated shouted: Let the blood flow
Students who dared to caution vanished
Workers who begged to disagree disappeared
Market woman were publicly stripped naked
They were flogged openly at their private parts
Businessmen were dragged from their homes into the streets

At gun point they were forced to carry 'night soil'.

There they go again
But Ghanaians know better now
That it was no revolution after all
It was a self-seeking brutal endeavor
For the top players who were lean and starving
Now, they are wobbling about with bursting bodies
Yes, they are now the nouveaux riche:
They are now those owning chains of mansions
They are now running the best of shops and boutiques

Those who paraded about with 'Afro Moses' sandals
They are now those who tread about in designer shoes

Did Akwasi Amankwaa Afrifa die in vain?
Did Acheampong, Akuffo, Kortey, Felli, Amedome die in vain?

Did Odartey, Utaka and countless others die in vain?

What about the students and the workers?
What about the numerous businessmen and market women?

Their blood is demanding justice
Yes, Justice for the treason of December 31.
Yes, justice for all the deception
The grand deception about integrity, probity and accountability!
