Gambaga (N/R), Nov. 23, GNA - Three communities out of 22 affected by flood in the East Mamprusi District had been assisted with 40 bags of maize and 100 pieces of mats valued at GH¢2,730.

Ghana Development Communities Association (GDCA), a local non-governmental organisation, presented the items on Friday at Gambaga to 664 persons in Sheenga, Aliga and Bukperi communities all in the East Mamprusi District.

Mr. Haruna Huseini Sulemana, Vice Chairman of GDCA who handed the items to the people, called for more assistance from organizations.

He said the NGO had been operating for about 30 years in the Northern Region in 14 districts.

Mr. Sulemana said GDCA assist people in diverse ways including setting up a local radio station to broadcast information that would help change and improve their lives through informative and educational programmes in local languages.

The District Chief Executive for East Mamprusi, Mr. Adam Imoro, commended the organization.

He said the district had not received relief items from any source since the flood in September.

Mr Sulemana appealed to benevolent organizations and the government to come to the aid of the flood victims in the area.

Mr. John Jababu, East Mamprusi Coordinator for National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) who received the items on behalf of the victims, said the district was excluded from a national relief items distributed to 10 districts in the Northern Region.

He therefore appealed to the government to intervene to save lives.
