The need for an electronic learning in Ghana

The need for an electronic learning in Ghana
15.05.2009 LISTEN

The world is in the global era were Internet industry is playing a major role in restructuring the economy and education to better the life of people. In Ghana it has been observed that majority of our graduate finished school without learning anything in terms of Computer literacy. The reasons many give is that it is very difficult to study computer and that our internet is also very slow.

But the process of learning by online has become rather simplified with the improvement in user interface, popularly known as “UI”. This in turn means that someone who has little or no knowledge of computers can hope to learn different subjects like accountancy, economics through electronic learning. People having very little knowledge of computers assume that electronic learning is only for those persons who are skilled in working with computers. However, that is a false assumption. While, it will be of great help if the person has got some basic knowledge of computers, it is certainly not the end of the road for him or her.

In the first or the initial phase of most of the electronic learning courses, students are given an operating knowledge related with computers, which helps them to become familiar with it. Once, they the students start to get a hang of the scheme of things, the rest become easy. Most of the students are in fact quite, surprised at the speed at which they become equipped to handle computers. So, having enrolled for electronic learning courses they manage to not only learn their desired subjects but also get a working knowledge of the computers.

There are a number of ways in which instruction is imparted to the students. One of the most convenient ways, to do so is through the online training video which is being sold worldwide. While online training consists of a variety of components like online training through audio…so I would plead with the Ghanaian teachers in any subject to use method of online to compliment what they are teaching.

Students find videos more appealing & convincing while, trying to grasp the basics of a particular subject. These online training video can then be downloaded & played as much as a student wishes to. So, it is not hard to imagine why this method has steadily gained in popularity among the students and also the teachers in developed world.

In conclusion I would plead with the Ghana education service to consider this online method in the school curriculum, which would enable students not to only acquire knowledge in his or her field but would also be literate in computer.
