Queenmothers in the Ahafo Ano North district, coming together as a union, have expressed concern over the high rate of teenage pregnancy in the district.

Nana Akua Abrafi, Queenmother of Mamfoman and Vice President of the Association, noted that the situation had led to many girls dropping out of school, and called for pragmatic measures to stamp it out. The queenmothers have resolved to hold regular meetings, and strategize on modalities to take control and proper care towards bailing the young girls out of this predicament.

They intend to discourage young girls from attending dance balls and video shows, and enforcing regular studies, and well as sensitizing parents on the need to provide the basic needs of their girl child, as a way of minimizing the high rate of teenage pregnancy.

Mr. Matthew Akowuah, Secretary to the queenmothers and District Cultural Officer, indicated that the association had appealed t the District Assembly for support in their campaign against teenage pregnancy in the district.
