The Ministry of Tourism has been urged to define the roles of the Assin South District Assembly and the traditional rulers in the management of the Manso Tourist Reception Centre.

Mr Kofi Mintah, a founding member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and a citizen of the town who made the appeal said outlining the roles of the two stakeholders would prevent the unnecessary rivalry between the two over the management of the Centre.

The Centre was established in 1998 to serve tourists who visited a stream called “Nnonko nsuo” where slaves from the northern part of the country were made to take their last bath before embarking on their “journey of no return”.

The place, Mr Mintah said, which had become a popular tourist destination and a source of livelihood for the people during the emancipation week, was “dying” gradually due to misunderstanding over the management.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency at Assin Manso, he said patronage at the facility during last year's celebration of the Emancipation Week was very discouraging as there was nothing new at the place to attract visitors, especially Africans in the Diaspora who usually participated in the celebration of the week-long activities.

“When the management problem is thrashed I hope the centre will bounce back with activities and new developments will take place,” he asserted.
