Mike Frank, 22, a sales assistant, was on Wednesday remanded into prison custody by the Asamankese Circuit Court on a charge of stealing.

Police Chief Inspector Kate Ogyiri, prosecuting, told the court that both the complainant and the accused live at Asamankese but they were not close friends.

She said on March two, the complainant closed his shop and left for home and shortly on arrival he went to the bathroom to have his bath leaving his shop key and other items hanging in the room.

The prosecutor said Frank, who had been observing the complainant, sneaked into his room and removed the shop keys and headed to the shop.

At about 2030 hours on that day, a witness saw the accused opening the complainant's shop and challenged him as to his mission.

But instead of assigning any reason, Frank took to his heels but was given a hot chase and apprehended.

A search on him found four large polythene bags and a bunch of keys and the complainant was informed of what had happened while the accused was later handed over to the police.

Frank who insisted that it was the complainant who sent him with the keys to the shop to collect an item for him had his plea changed from guilty to not guilty by the court and remanded to reappear on March 23.
