THIS year's fifth annual Lincoln Community School Model United Nations conference was held in Accra recently on the theme: 'Globalisation of human rights through education and development'.
About 240 high school students from Ghana, Nigeria, Mali, Niger, Burkina Faso, Mozambique, Lebanon and Germany participated in the three-day conference, characteristic of the normal UN session.
The main objective of the conference was to create an opportunity for the students to simulate proceedings of the UN as delegates,representing assigned member countries.
Issues bothering the world such as the 'global food crisis', 'implementing measures to regulate the exploitation of natural resources', 'international cooperation in the peaceful use of outer space, and 'implementing measures to ensure security of waterways' were discussed by the environmental, human rights, security, economic, and social policy committees.
