NPP still the people's choice -Akufo-Addo declares

Nana Akufo-Addo, Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party, at the weekend stated that his ability to secure the highest number of the popular votes in the December 7 presidential election is a demonstration of the continued confidence majority of the people have in the ruling government.

He noted that in all democratic states the world over it had never been easy for a ruling party to secure a third term mandate, adding "our round one victory shows the NPP is still the choice of the people. Ghanaians still have confidence in us.'

Nana Akufo-Addo was speaking on Radio Central, a Cape-Coast based radio station, as part of his visit to the Central Region where he kick-started his campaign for the run-off presidential election slated December 28.

Before the media encounter, he had interacted with traders at the Abura and Kotokoraba markets, as well as artisans and mechanics at Siwdu.

The NPP Presidential Candidate had earlier paid a campaign visit to Swedru and Mankessim in the Agona West and Mfantseman West constituencies respectively where he interacted with market women, drivers and the general public, and solicited their support to enable him win the election.

He also visited Winneba in the Effutu constituency where he interacted with the fisher folk, and impressed on them to vote for him in the December 28 run-off presidential election.

He told the people every indication pointed to the fact that majority of the electorate would support the NPP to win the run-off presidential election 'because Ghanaians demonstrated by the outcome of the December 7 election that there were not prepared accept the change the NDC is offering them.'

Nana Akufo-Addo noted that he was favoured by history to win the elections, recalling the similar instance in 1979 where Hilla Liman won against Victor Owusu, as well as President Kufuor's victory over NDC flag bearer, John Evans Atta Mills, in 2000. Both Hilla Liman and Victor Owusu had led in the first round presidential elections.

The NPP Presidential Candidate urged the people to relegate any tribal sentiment to the background as they go to the polls on December 28, stressing 'the election is not about the ethnic backgrounds of the candidates.

Touching on the next Parliament which is evenly divided, Nana Akufo-Addo stated he was well-placed to ensure the smooth operation of the Legislature in view of the vast experience he had accumulated from international diplomatic engagements.

Nana Akufo-Addo called on activists of the NPP to remain focused, and campaign vigorously to ensure a resounding victory in the run-off presidential elections to enable his ascend the presidency to build on the legacy of the Kufuor administration.
