The Founder of the United Renaissance Party (URP), Mr Charles Kofi Wayo, has joined forces with the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in a bid to wrest power from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the December polls.##m:[Read more]##

He told the Daily Graphic that although he had not defected to the NDC, he was only co-operating with the party to help in effecting a change in the political leadership of the country.

Mr Wayo, who fell out with the NPP shortly after the 2000 elections, joined forces with the People's National Convention (PNC) and later formed the URP early last year, to contest the 2008 presidential elections but failed to file his nomination papers with the Electoral Commission.

This contradicts his claim in an interview with the Daily Graphic earlier this year that the URP was to hold its national delegates congress in March 2008 to elect its flag bearer and other national executive members.

Mr Wayo was the NPP parliamentary candidate for Ayawaso East in 2000 but lost to Dr Mustapha of the NDC.

He said the NPP government had disappointed Ghanaians and thus the time had come for the electorate to change the government and replace it with one that had the welfare of Ghanaians at heart.

Mr Wayo is of the conviction that the economy, under the current government, had not been competently managed and as a result brought in its trail high unemployment rate among the youth.

The one time NPP stalwart, who declined to comment further, underscored the need for Ghanaians to critically analyse the campaign messages of the various political parties and make the right choice on the polling day.
